Difference between laser projector and ordinary projector

July 01, 2022
The difference between a laser projector and an ordinary projector is mainly in the light source, projection distance, and screen performance. The laser projector uses a solid-state laser light source, the projection distance is shorter than that of ordinary projectors, and the picture performance will be better.

1. First of all, the biggest difference between the two is the light source. Laser projection uses a solid-state laser as the light source, while traditional projectors and most of them use ultra-high pressure mercury lamps. The lifespan of the two is also different. The lifespan of the laser light source can reach more than 20,000 hours, and it can be used for 8.5 years based on 8 hours a day; while the general projector generally has a lifespan of 5,000 hours, which is generally used for about 2 years. This also leads to the high cost of the laser light source itself, the one-time investment cost is large, but the subsequent replacement cost is small, while the light bulb is just the opposite.

2. Ordinary projection uses the principle of LCD projector. The image is still displayed on the LCD panel, but the image is projected onto the screen through a stronger light source and lens; while laser projection uses DLP projector, its principle is to use a lot of small Mirrors, each small mirror controls the angle of the light to achieve different intensity control, the emitted light hits the screen through the lens, and finally forms an image.

3. The projection distance, the limitation of the principle leads to the fact that the general projector has relatively high requirements for space, and needs a larger indoor environment and projection distance; on the contrary, the laser uses a reflective short-focus projection, so it can be used in half a meter. The distance can project a large screen of more than 100 inches.

4. The traditional projector has a long projection distance and needs to be matched with a good curtain, and most of them use the principle of diffuse reflection to avoid direct reflection of the projected strong light, so the performance of anti-light performance is weak. The laser projection using the reflective cut-off projection principle can shorten the projection distance, and has higher brightness and stronger anti-light performance.
